Early Years Education in SKEI is about creating a safe and emotionally warm environment to raise and support children. They continuously learn through fun and engaging activities. Playtime is an important opportunity to practice important social, reasoning, motor and cognitive skills. Children have the freedom to explore and learn within and outside the classrooms with teachers becoming learning facilitators. They develop abilities to question, analyse situations and investigate answers to problems which lays a very strong foundation to become responsible individuals.
We strongly believe that Early Years Education is the foundation for the child ‘s ability to develop passion for independent as well as collaborative lifelong learning. Therefore our curriculum is based on Froebel's play way method as the critical cornerstone in this journey. These important learning methods help children to become empathic and independent learners. They will learn to coexist with diverse cultures, develop a strong spirit of inquiry to understand why and how things work and most importantly connect with nature. These methods encourage our children to experience learning by doing and playing. Therefore, our experienced teachers have designed meaningful activities and games that make learning fun and enjoyable for our young children. The curriculum is based on personalized learning to nurture holistic child development.
Friedrich Froebel (1782-1852) was a German educator who invented the Kindergarten education system or the Froebel's Play-Way method of learning. He believed that "play is the highest expression of human development in childhood for it alone is the free expression of what is in the child's soul." According to Froebel, in play children construct their understanding of the world through direct experience with it. His ideas about learning through nature and the importance of play have spread throughout the world.
In the early years, language development happens through formal and informal means. Language learning is an active process which has significant dependency on sensorial organs. Language development takes place through three interdependent activities - Song, Movement and Construction.
Using games, toys, shapes, sizes and activities, Mathematics is taught in a natural way that ignites the curiosity of the child. This helps the child gain a deeper understanding of the subject and its basic operations. Play situations are designed that offer children experiential learning (hands-on learning) through the use of various toys making learning a more rewarding experience.
Parents as well as Grandparents play a crucial role in creating a warm environment at home to nurture their children. As the home is a natural extension of school, support for learning is provided by elders. Special days are included in our calendar to welcome parents as well as grandparents to be part of their child's learning journey in school. These celebration days provide insights to parents about the school life and its teaching methodology as well as helps to develop a bond between them and the school.
